This July, the heart of Valletta transforms into a vibrant celebration of Malta’s rich culinary heritage as the Valletta Local Food Festival returns to St George’s Square from 3–5 July, between 7:00pm and midnight.
Hosted by the Valletta Cultural Agency in collaboration with the Malta Food Agency, the festival brings together more than 25 food and drink exhibitors, offering visitors an authentic journey through the flavours, traditions and creativity that define Maltese cuisine.
A Feast of Authentic Maltese Flavours
Whether you’re craving traditional comfort food or looking to discover contemporary takes on local ingredients, there’s something to tempt every palate.
Food lovers can savour iconic Maltese dishes including stuffat tal-fenek (rabbit stew), braġjoli, kirxa, bebbux (snails), horse meat specialities, timpana, hearty pork dishes, and freshly prepared ftira topped with classic Maltese ingredients. Expect delicious street food favourites such as lamb burgers, Maltese sausage, mazzit, qriemec, and freshly made ftajjar mitwijin filled with a variety of savoury options.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to sample exceptional local dairy products, including traditional ġbejniet made from sheep’s and goat’s milk, alongside a wonderful selection of artisan delicacies.

Sweet Traditions
No Maltese food festival would be complete without dessert. Indulge in beloved local favourites including freshly made imqaret, qubbajd, traditional cannoli, homemade pastries and an irresistible selection of handcrafted sweet treats.

Meet Malta’s Artisan Producers
The festival is also a showcase for some of Malta’s finest artisan food producers. Browse stalls offering award-winning chutneys, locally infused sea salts, olive paste, capers, sun-dried tomatoes, carob syrup, pure Maltese honey and bold chilli products that highlight the diversity of local ingredients.
It’s the perfect opportunity to discover the people behind these exceptional products, hear their stories, and take home authentic flavours of the Maltese Islands.
Raise a Glass
Pair your meal with locally produced beverages, from elegant Maltese wines showcasing indigenous grape varieties to refreshing cocktails crafted using locally distilled Vodka.
Live Cooking
Beyond the food, visitors can enjoy live cooking demonstrations by local chefs, who will showcase seasonal ingredients and innovative recipes inspired by Maltese culinary traditions.
The lively atmosphere makes the festival the perfect outing for families, friends and visitors looking to experience the best of Maltese culture.
