Spanning over 45 metres, the design is inspired by the architecture and intricate flowers on buildings in South Street, with their intricate stonework and colourful doors, windows and balconies. The installation celebrates the power of art in public places offering warmth, energy and spirit.
Titled ‘Rainbow Street’, the hanging exhibition immerses visitors into a colourful world of lights and colours.
Produced by the Valletta Cultural Agency following a Call for Proposals, the coloured fibreglass designs create beautiful shadows throughout the day. The streetscape is then transformed at night as 4,000 individually controlled bulbs light up the installation.
The reds, oranges and yellows, contrast with greens, blues and purples, creating rainbow vibes. The changing colours and the roundels coupled with the floral designs, hint upon the atmosphere of Maltese festas and traditional fireworks – an element which is sorely missed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Come and experience the installation until the end of September.
