The debut performance of the Maltese adaptation of Yasmina Reza’s award-winning comedy ART, will be taking place at Splendid, Strait Street, Valletta, from the 21st until the 23rd and from the 28th to the 30th April, 2023, at 7.30pm. Arti is another production by the Valletta Cultural Agency, as part of its Strada Stretta programme.
Translated to Maltese and directed by Albert Marshall, and with the participation of Mikhail Basmadjian, Sean Buhagiar and Ray Calleja, this performance delves into the age-old question “What exactly is Art?” However, Arti is not just a work about art, but, in essence, an ‘erudite’ commentary on the dynamics of friendship between three men whose interpersonal relationship is challenged by how they relate to a piece of white canvas – a piece of abstract monochromatic art – which one of them (Serge), buys for the price of €200,000.
Art was staged for the first time in Paris in 1994, exactly 29 years ago, and continues to be produced with great success. This is the first time Arti is being staged in Malta in Maltese.
