The Valletta Cultural Agency has launched its 2025 Cultural Programme, featuring a diverse range of events and activities in Valletta, spanning different genres throughout the year.
During a press conference held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre this morning, it was announced that this year’s new productions include the concert Ilħna li Jibqgħu: Klassiċi Maltin, a tribute to some of the greatest singers in Malta’s musical history. Audiences will also experience TISBIT – a dynamic percussion concert by the talented students of The Clef House. During Holy Week, a traditional installation featuring hundreds of fire bowls will be set up in St George’s Square, alongside a production led by renowned theatre personalities Joseph Galea and Carlos Farrugia at The Splendid.
The 11th edition of the Valletta Green Festival will take place in April, transforming St George’s Square into a stunning garden, while, following the success of previous years, the Valletta Local Food Festival will be held in July, now in a different and larger location at the Upper Barrakka Gardens.
The Cultural Programme also includes several large-scale collaborations, among them Opera in the Capital and Christmas in the Capital, as well as numerous exhibitions, concerts, and theatre productions.
Towards the end of the year, the Agency will be presenting the exhibition Antler Cry, showcasing Anthony Catania’s reinterpretation of the legend of Actaeon.
The Strada Stretta programme continues with Legends of Strait Street, Kantawturi, Sferatika, and Strettaçȁo.
Meanwhile, the Valletta Design Cluster continues to bridge art and design, inviting budding designers, students, and industry professionals to participate in a series of talks, courses, community activities, and more. At the heart of this programme are FiftySix Design Talks, The Art of Making series, sessions led by studio members, and Tinkering Day, among other events.
Minister for National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government Owen Bonnici stated: “This Cultural Programme is another step towards further strengthening the cultural sector and beautifying our capital city. He stressed that these initiatives not only offer space for artistic expression and creativity, but also continue to attract more visitors and strengthen the creative economy.”
Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman Jason Micallef remarked, “The Valletta Cultural Agency has designed a comprehensive programme offering a variety of events that celebrate our artistic heritage while embracing new creative expressions. From powerful musical productions like Ilħna li Jibqgħu: Klassiċi Maltin to immersive experiences and large-scale festivals, this programme reflects our commitment to strengthening Valletta’s cultural scene. With a focus on collaboration and innovation, we aim to create significant cultural moments for our audiences throughout the year.”
Valletta Cultural Agency CEO Catherine Tabone explained, “Following the success of Verdi’s Requiem last November, the Christmas events, and last weekend’s operatic concert production L’Alpino, the 2025 Cultural Programme reflects the Agency’s mission to create meaningful artistic experiences that engage, inspire, and connect people. This year, we continue to push creative boundaries with new productions, large-scale events, and unique collaborations that reinforce Valletta’s role as a cultural hub. We invite audiences to join us and experience the artistic vibrancy of our capital city.”
