This concert will be held at St George’s Square, in Valletta, on Saturday 4th June 2022 at 8.30 pm.
This was announced by the Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Governance Owen Bonnici at a press conference today.
Opera in the City – The Three Tenors is an annual event in the Valletta Cultural Agency’s programme, with the participation of three Maltese tenors of international fame, Nico Darmanin, Cliff Zammit Stevens and Alan Sciberras, accompanied by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
Dr Bonnici said, “This will be a special event for Valletta – This concert will invite the audience to a wonderful music journey. It showcases Maltese culture’s role in its various forms.”
“With Opera in the City – The Three Tenors, the Valletta Cultural Agency is bringing artistic events and, in particular, opera (bel canto) to the heart of the Capital. Using this concert, we respond to the demand for such events in the open while promoting the Capital,” Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman Jason Micallef said.
Opera in the City – The Three Tenors will be an evening of world-famous operatic tunes. This is the third concert in the series, following the tremendous success of the first and second editions. The repertoire for tenor voices is one of the most melodic and includes many well-known tunes. Having not one but three remarkable voices perform some of the most beloved arias and songs, together with the MPO, will surely be special for audiences.
The idea for such concerts came about in December 2020 when the Valletta Cultural Agency started to hold small, intimate events in Republic Square, near the Bibliotheca. While tickets are limited, this concert will be held on a larger scale at St George’s Square with a ticketed seated area and a standing area with free access to the public.
