The Valletta Cultural Agency proudly presents Kristu Lura fi Strada Stretta, a Lent-themed play by Carlos Farrugia and Joseph Galea. Marking its 10th anniversary, the production returns to Strada Stretta—the very place where it began—reviving its intimate spirit.
Speaking at a press conference, Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman Jason Micallef highlighted the significance of this milestone: “Kristu Lura fi Strada Stretta holds deep meaning for Valletta’s cultural landscape. Returning to Strada Stretta feels both symbolic and necessary, as this play is more than a performance—it is a reflection on tradition, faith, and the power of storytelling. The Valletta Cultural Agency remains committed to supporting artistic works that preserve and celebrate Malta’s heritage, and we are proud to collaborate with Carlos Farrugia, Joseph Galea, and Arts Council Malta to bring this production to life once again.”
“The Malta Arts Council is deeply committed to supporting those who hold arts and culture close to their hearts. Today’s production is a testament to the immense talent of our artists. We are proud to collaborate on this outstanding project,” said Luke Dalli, Chief Operations Officer of Arts Council Malta.
Staged at The Splendid from the 11th to the 19th of April 2025, Kristu Lura fi Strada Stretta follows a scriptwriter who, during Holy Week, pauses for a beer at a bar in Strada Stretta, in the mid-70s. This seemingly simple act unfolds into a thought-provoking narrative that explores themes central to Farrugia’s and Galea’s earlier works, blending reflection with artistic expression.
Sharing his perspective, director and actor Carlos Farrugia said, “Returning to Strada Stretta for this anniversary is a powerful moment, reinforcing the play’s connection to the very place that inspired it. This year’s production continues to explore faith, introspection, and human connection, bringing these themes to life in a setting that resonates deeply with audiences. I am grateful to the Valletta Cultural Agency and Arts Council Malta for their support and look forward to sharing this experience with the public.”
Supported by Arts Council Malta, this year’s edition transforms Strada Stretta into a living stage, where history and artistic expression become one.
