Fountains dancing to dramatic music in Valletta’s Grand Harbour stole the show on Saturday night as the Valletta Pageant of the Seas 2024 was held.
With a full moon beaming over the calm waters, this event marked the start of a beautiful Mediterranean summer. Crowds gathered at Quarry Wharf to watch the biannual spectacle, now in its fifth edition since it began in the run-up to Valletta 2018 European Capital of Culture.
This year’s edition featured the largest water fountains ever seen in Malta, projections on the ramparts of Fort St Angelo with an environmental theme, a synchronized fireworks display, and a captivating light show. Themed “Save the Seas,” the event highlighted environmental threats to the world’s seas, focusing on plastic and microplastic pollution. The show included an animated narrative brought to life with an original score, powerful water fountain displays, and a grand fireworks finale.
Events began at 9pm with a display featuring traditional dgħajjes tal-pass and regatta boats at nighttime. This was followed by a light projection featuring an animated narrative and music composed by Cyprian Cassar. The show continued with a spectacular water fountain display by Aquatique Show, inspired by the nature of water and reflecting the island’s culture. The evening concluded with a grand fireworks display.
The Valletta Pageant of the Seas was once again staged by the Valletta Cultural Agency, within the Ministry for National Heritage and with the support of the Malta Tourism Authority.
