South Street has been transformed into a colourful metamorphosis showcasing Meta l-Baħar Iniggeż (When the Sea Stings), by artist Serhat Gür – a large scale installation exploring the connection between land, human society and our rich marine biodiversity.
The sudden change in South Street is food for thought marking World Ocean’s Day and the importance the sea plays in our everyday life.
This installation builds on the theme of the Valletta Green Festival 2022 – the protection of natural habitats and the effect this has on the flora and fauna of our islands.
The beauty of a floating jellyfish is often compared to a butterfly. Appearing to be simple creatures by simply drifting in the sea, some species can be very complex and have been around for at least 600 million years.
