Following their successful STRADA STRETTA debut last year, HOSKUBAN will be back in Strait Street for another spellbinding show infused with heavy doses of Afro-Cuban rhythms, mambo, salsa and Jazz. After last year’s performance it was evident that the HOSKUBAN show required a larger space and to this end the performance will be held outdoors in the widest part of Strait street, in between St. John and Melita streets (in front of Vincenti buildings). As is indicated in the title, IMNARJA KUBANA will be held on Saturday the 29th of June, beginning at 8:30pm.
The members of HosKuban are all seasoned and veteran Jazz musicians with a penchant for the ‘Cuban Sound’ (the modified Maltese translation becoming HosKuban). These include band leader Adrian Galea Lucas on Congas and percussion, Adrian ‘Ir-Russu’ Brincat on Trumpet, Warren Galea on guitars, Emanuel Pulis on drums, Vinny Vella on piano, Walter Vella on saxophone and flute, Anthony ‘Il-Fesu’ Saliba on bass and Joseph Camilleri Jnr. ‘Il-Bibi’ on percussion. The ‘novelty’ that will feature in this year’s show is the inclusion of talented vocalist Mariele Zammit, who will be providing a vocal dimension to some of the better known tunes.
Those attending the event will be regaled with an entire set list suffused with the best of Cuban/Jazz music, including standards such as Manteca (Dizzy Gillespie & Chano Pozo Gonzalez), Mambo Inn (Mario Bauza’,Grace Sampson, Bobby Woodlen), Caravan (Juan Tizol & Duke Ellington), as well as Chucho Valdez’s Mambo Influenciado, Santana’s Oye Como Va and Herbie Hancock’s Watermelon man amongst many others. Needless to say, bringing one’s dancing shoes to the event is practically mandatory. Entrance to the HosKuban show IMNARJA KUBANA in Strait street on Saturday the 29th of June @ 8:30pm is free of charge.
This event is an initiative within the Valletta Cultural Agency’s STRADA STRETTA programme.
