Arti is the debut performance of the Maltese adaptation of Yasmina Reza’s award winning comedy ART, that delves into the age old question “What exactly is Art?”. Translated and directed by Albert Marshall.
Arti is produced by the Valletta Cultural Agency, as part of its Strada Stretta programme.
Often described as a tragicomedy, the protagonists of Arti are three middle-class men: Marc and Serge, who are more or less the same age, and Yvan, who is slightly younger.
Arti is not just a work about art, but, in essence, an ‘erudite’ commentary on the dynamics of friendship between three men whose interpersonal relationship is challenged by how they relate to a piece of white canvas – a piece of abstract monochromatic art – which one of them (Serge), buys for the ‘ridiculous’ price of €200,000: the ‘personal’ becomes ‘political’.
