This year’s edition of Opera in the Capital takes a twist as soprano Nadia Vella joins Maltese tenors Cliff Zammit Stevens and Alan Sciberras. The popular concert returns to St George’s Square in Valletta on the 30th of August at 9pm, promising a balmy evening of arias and ensembles that showcase the majestic elements of the human voice—the night’s star attraction.
Tickets for this much-loved event, now in its fourth edition, are available at Showshappening.
The trio, accompanied by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the musical direction of Maestro Michael Laus, will perform world-famous opera excerpts and arias. Among the highlights are the emotionally charged arias “La fleur que tu m’avais jetée” from Bizet’s Carmen and “È la solita storia del pastore” from Cilea’s L’Arlesiana, contrasting with the dramatic fervor of “Donna non vidi mai” from Puccini’s Manon Lescaut.
The evening will also feature the sublime melodies of Louiguy’s “La vie en rose,” “Lippen Schweigen” from Lehár’s The Merry Widow, “Je veux vivre” from Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, and “All I Ask of You” from Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, ensuring a diverse and spectacular repertoire that spans classical and music theatre traditions.
Additionally, the beloved Maltese song “Xemx” and Zammit Stevens’ “Fil-Qrib,” with their heartfelt lyrics and evocative melodies, will contribute to making Opera in the Capital an unforgettable experience for both the performers and the audience.
