The Valletta Cultural Agency together with Dutch Maltese conductor of international fame, Lawrence Renes and a group of leading international artists and musicians will be bringing to you Songs of Hope.
This production will be broadcast on the 1st May on TVM at 9pm.
As Artistic Director of Songs of Hope, Renes, who has recently been appointed Maltese Ambassador for Culture, said, “In these times, even more so, we artists are the first responders of the soul therefore I think it’s very important that concerts take place and that people experience art as it’s so much needed”.
This heartfelt programme, under the patronage of His Excellency The President of Malta, features a set of beautiful songs from the classical repertoire including Benjamin Britten’s, Canticle: ‘My Beloved Is Mine’, John Dowland’s – ‘Now, O, Now I Needs Must Part’ and Henry Purcell’s ‘O Solitude’ performed by counter-tenor Tim Mead while mezzo soprano Anna Werle will interpret Gustav Mahler’s ‘Urlicht’ and Johann Strauss’ ‘Schwipslied’.
Soprano Elin Rombo will perform Hugo Alfven’s ‘Skogen Sover’ and Leonard Bernstein’s ‘Glitter and Be Gay’ from Candide and the traditional song ‘I Denna Ljuva Sommartid’.
Jeremy Carpenter’s baritone voice will transport us to another world with Roger Quilter’s ‘Weep You No More’ and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘Soliloquy’ from Carousel.
The singers will all come together for Orlando Gibbons’ ‘Drop, Drop, Slow Tears’ and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ from Carousel.
Pianist Alphonse Cemin will perform George Benjamin’s ‘Meditation on Haydn’s Name’ and finally, all the singers together with the pianist will give us their interpretation of Leonard Bernstein’s’ Make Our Garden Grow’ from Candide.
Stage Direction was entrusted to the British Benjamin Davis who is an international name in the field of operatic productions.
