Under the direction of Roderick Bugeja, the audience can expect a mix of popular Trance and House excerpts with songs by acclaimed artists such as Dash Berlin and Armin Van Buuren. This concert shall also pay tribute to the memory of eminent Italian composer, conductor and musician Ennio Morricone who passed away a few days ago. Local singers Ivan Grech, Brooke, AIDAN and Nicole Frendo will also be taking to the stage in a set-list produced by Damian Mizzi with orchestral arrangements by Aurelio Belli. The Brass House Unit shall be entertaining crowds prior to the start of the concert.
Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, José Herrera, said that “This concert will be the first major event in Valletta after the pandemic, an opportunity for people to start enjoying social life as we know it once again in our Capital”. He reiterated that “thanks to the mix of different musical genres and instruments, this concert will offer something for everyone.”
Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Julia Farrugia Portelli emphasised on the importance of keeping our capital city alive and vibrant and that is why the Ministry for Tourism is highly investing this summer in several events and activities for different ages and genres. “Last year we managed to attract around 2.5 million tourists to our beautiful capital city and such events not only keep our city active and vibrant but promote local talent” stated Minister Farrugia Portelli.
Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman, Jason Micallef, said, “We look forward to welcoming the public to Valletta for this event which is not to be missed – a concert that will continue to attract people of all ages to the City as part of our efforts for the economic, social and cultural regeneration of Valletta, and which is also part of the legacy of Valletta 2018.”
Malta Tourism Authority Chairman Dr Gavin Gulia stated that “This event is another welcome sign that Valletta is regaining its status as the hub for cultural activity on the island following the Covid pandemic. Tourists as well as locals have come to appreciate all that our capital city has to offer in terms of culture, and events such as this add to the richness of product that Valletta already offers in copious amounts.”
Malta Philharmonic Orchestra Chairman, Sigmund Mifsud, said that, “This is one of the first full-scale concerts of MPO following COVID-19. As a cultural organization, we always stressed that the arts should be a catalyst to inspire people. After the orchestra launched its online programme during the pandemic, these live events aim to motivate audiences to enjoy social life once more. As such we are thrilled to collaborate with Tenishia in this eclectic evening of electronic and classical music.”
The first edition of TEMPO, held during the official opening of Valletta 2018, the European Capital of Culture, was a great success among the Maltese public, therefore the Valletta Cultural Agency and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra are collaborating once again to stage a summer edition of this concert, as part of a series of summer activities being held in the Capital by the VCA. This event is supported by the Ministry for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government and the Ministry for Tourism and Consumer Protection.
