The evening opened with Tellieqa Telliqun Race – a fun competition in the Grand Harbor between six teams that sailed their own handmade seacraft. The Tellieqa Telliqun 2022 winners are Ryan Farrugia and Elise Azzopardi. Daniel Debono and Miguel Gerada came in second place while Wendy Ciantar and Jude Sciberras came in third place.
The Italian band Capone Bungt Bangt gave a performance using a number of instruments made from recycled materials, followed by The Palace String Orchestra, under the direction of Ryan Abela, with arrangements by Maestro Paul Abela who took the audience back in time with music from every decade to the forties.
The 1970s era also included a special night regatta, making reference to the year 1979 when the first regatta was held at night, with the participation of six clubs from across the harbor on “dgħajjes tal-pass”. The winners of this year’s regatta are Kalkara, and Marsa and Bormla came in second and third place respectively.
This was then followed by a theatrical performance called “It-Taqtigħa”, written by Jean Pierre Magro and directed by Lee-N Abela, with the participation of the Moveo Dance Company and a number of prominent local actors. The highlight of the evening however was the representation of the arrival of the Convoy of Santa Marija in the Grand Harbour.
Projections on Fort St Angelo and on 6 spheres of 6 meters each made of 2,500 candles floating on the water as well as an aerial fireworks performance closed this magical evening.
The Valletta Pageant of the Seas was organised by the Valletta Cultural Agency, with the support of the Ministry for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, Visit Malta, the Armed Forces of Malta, Tug Malta, Enemalta and Falzon Group.
